Two pro-life activists were arrested and hit with 15 felony charges on Tuesday after they tried to destroy Planned Parenthood with fake anti-abortion videos.
Vocativ reported that pro-life Republicans David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt of the Center for Medical Progress had accused Planned Parenthood of selling the human remains of the unborn. However, they were then arrested for recording people without consent during their undercover investigation.
“The right to privacy is a cornerstone of California’s Constitution, and a right that is foundational in a free democratic society,” California Attorney General Xavier Becerra said in a statement. “We will not tolerate the criminal recording of confidential conversations.”
Both Daleiden and Merritt have been charged with criminal conspiracy to invade privacy and 14 counts of filming people without their permission in Los Angeles, San Francisco and El Dorado counties.
This came after the duo released heavily edited videos of Planned Parenthood executives and employees that they claimed showed that they were trying to sell body parts of aborted fetuses. The videos, of course, were completely fake and manipulated.
“Thanks to Planned Parenthood docs & clinicians who continued thru it all to provide care, no matter what,” Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards said in a brief statement on Twitter.
